How Orthodontics Work

Orthodontic treatment has the same aim for children, teenagers, and adults—to straighten teeth so they look and function better.

This goal can be achieved by using braces or clear aligners. Both treatments put gentle pressure on your teeth to slowly move them into the desired position over a period of months or years.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces, made of either metal or ceramic, have been used for decades to straighten teeth. In recent years, advances in orthodontic treatment have resulted in braces that are low-profile, more comfortable and easier to care for.

How Braces Straighten Teeth

Braces apply continuous pressure to the teeth over a period of time, slowly moving them into their new, corrected positions.

As pressure is applied and the teeth move, the bone changes shape to support the teeth in their new position.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Invisalign clear aligners work to gradually straighten your smile over a period of time, using customized, clear, plastic aligners that are periodically adjusted in our Winnipeg office.

Invisalign clear aligners offer a convenience factor –  they are removable for when you would prefer no one know that you are straightening your teeth.

Similar in appearance to custom whitening trays, Invisalign clear aligners are easy to insert and can be removed to eat, drink, brush, and floss!
